PIM & RTWP Mitigation

Elevated RTWP and uplink degradation can come from PIM, RF-path defects, component problems or external RF sources. GCorp first determines whether the issue is site-generated or external, then isolates the affected path, corrects the fault and verifies the result with before-and-after measurements.

Symptoms

When the uplink noise floor will not come down.

Passive intermodulation can raise the uplink noise floor and degrade sector performance, particularly when transmit energy interacts with nonlinear junctions in the RF path or nearby conductive materials. Effective troubleshooting starts by separating PIM and RF-path faults from external interference and hardware issues.

GCorp uses line testing, controlled isolation, component inspection, PIM measurements and post-repair verification to narrow the source and confirm that corrective work produced a measurable improvement.

Testing and correction scope

  • Return loss / VSWR sweeps and distance-to-fault on every affected path
  • PIM testing to the specified IM order, test power and pass/fail limit
  • Connector, jumper, weatherproofing and antenna inspection and correction
  • Grounding and bonding inspection where the path is implicated
  • Tower-top and ground-path isolation
  • Radio, RRU and duplexer fault confirmation
  • Post-repair sweep and PIM validation
  • RTWP confirmation after the work is complete

Isolation, testing and correction

Site-generated or external: established first.

01  Symptom triage

We separate site-generated faults from external interference before mobilizing a climb crew, using RTWP behavior, sector patterns and load correlation.

02  Line sweep and distance to fault

Return loss and DTF measurements localize the anomaly along the path before anyone opens a connector.

03  PIM test and source isolation

PIM testing confirms whether the affected RF path is generating passive intermodulation. Controlled isolation, line measurements, component inspection and repeat testing are then used to narrow the source before corrective work is performed.

04  Correction

Faulty connectors, jumpers, weatherproofing, mounting hardware or antennas are corrected to carrier standard, torque-verified and re-weatherproofed.

05  Validation

The path is re-swept and re-tested, and RTWP is confirmed against the baseline, before the site is handed back.

Verification

Before-and-after evidence for every path we open.

Test results before and after the work, with every connection and part that was changed.

  • Pre- and post-repair sweep traces (return loss, DTF)
  • PIM test results before and after
  • Photographic record of every connection opened and remade
  • Torque and weatherproofing verification
  • RTWP comparison against baseline
  • Closeout report with findings and parts replaced
